Biography
Annie Reid and James Rolph were childhood friends, growing up in the same neighborhood in San Francisco. They married on June 26, 1900. Annie was well prepared for the role of First Lady, as Jim had been Mayor of San Francisco for nineteen years before he became Governor. Annie was an accomplished musician and charming hostess. As First Lady, she reached out to her husband's constituents by giving teas that were open to the public. The Los Angeles Times described Annie as "…a very tiny person, very much the cuddly type. Her eyes are blue, her skin of good texture, and she dresses exactly to suit her style." Annie died on September 23, 1956 in San Francisco.
