Biography
A native of Long Beach, California, Gloria studied interior design at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. While raising three children, Gloria began a long volunteer career by participating in many community outreach programs most of which involved children: public school volunteer, PTA, Girl Scouts, Campfire, Jonathan Jaques Children Cancer Center, St. Mary Hospital volunteer, and Assistance League of both Long Beach and Sacramento.
As First Lady, Gloria organized a statewide awards program to recognize outstanding volunteer achievement for Volunteer Centers of California. Gloria and George continue to give their time to many community programs, most notably the California State University Long Beach Disabled Student Services program and the Long Beach Day Nursery "Stepping Stones to Success" program, which provides scholarships to working families who are unable to afford child care. Gloria also serves on the St. Mary's Hospital Board of Trustees and the Rancho Los Alamitos Foundation Board.
Gloria and George were married in 1957 and have three children and six grandchildren.
